Hamara Karachi celebrations kick off

KARACHI: The ‘Hamara Karachi’ ceremonies commenced in various towns of the city on completion of 75 years of the construction of the old KMC building on Saturday.

A splendid display of fireworks at the old KMC building was also witnessed by a large number of people.

In this connection, a “Second Science Teaching and Competition Seminar” was held at a local hotel in coordination with the city government, Happy Home Secondary School and Concordia Forum of UK.

Besides, teachers of 45 schools of other cities had also set up stalls at the seminar in which practicals were demonstrated on various scientific subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Information Technology.

City Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil on this occasion underlined the need to inculcate the knowledge of science among the youth and added that seminars should also be held in this regard.

She pointed out that it is necessary to acquire knowledge regarding the information technology as it is the need of the hour.

The speakers included Fatima Surraya Bajia, Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, and others.

Under the Hamara Karachi festival, a Mushaira was organised at the Annu Bhai Park, and Qawwali was held in Landhi town.

In this regard, Sindh Minister for Environment Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that collective awareness about environmental pollution among people must be given top priority during the Hamara Karachi festivities.

He said that the Haq Parast leadership brought city’s lost glories back, and the event would prove conducive to promoting its better image at the international level.

Meanwhile, events in connection with the Hamara Karachi campaign will start in SITE Town from January 11, while a musical show will also be held at the Fire Brigade Ground at 7pm.

Prominent singers including Rahim Shah, Strings Band and others will perform at the show.

The SITE town Nazim has issued special directives to UC Nazims and DTO Sanitation for maintaining cleanliness in the town during the event. Free entry pass can be obtained from UC Nazims.
